Choosing Residential Treatment
Residential treatment is a commitment – a commitment to yourself and to the desire for a lifetime free from the ravages of addiction. Choosing residential treatment means saying to yourself that you are ready for a new life and are willing to engage in an experience that will build a solid underpinning for the life you’ve always wanted to live.
A residential setting allows you to insulate yourself in a secure place, away from the pressures of your daily life. We create for you a new home, one in which you can have the freedom and safety to address the underlying causes of your addiction so that you can move past them. Generally, this process takes somewhere in the range of 90-120 days at our center and continues with aftercare when you return home. Those who choose residential treatment are committing to themselves and their recovery in a very tangible way.

Cliffside is a boutique facility. We serve only a small number of people at any one time and have a client to staff ratio of 1:4 – Yes, we have four staff members for each client we serve. Cliffside Malibu is also on the cutting edge of addiction research among treatment facilities. We are the only treatment center in the world to employ a full-time addiction researcher; her job is to read every new study in the fields of medicine, psychology, neuroscience, and other fields to help us find the best, scientifically-proven therapies to help our clients. We rely on evidence-based techniques that allow us to literally “rewire” a person’s brain so that recovery is seamless and comfortable. By understanding the science of recovery and continually implementing the latest scientific findings, we have created a treatment protocol that is unmatched in its success.

The Facility
Our facility is both luxurious and homey. There is no clinical atmosphere such as what you might find in a hospital nor will you be overwhelmed with the cavernous qualities of a mansion. Rather, our facility is comprised of real homes – beach cabins with all the latest amenities and creature comforts.
You will find in all our rooms: top-of-the-line linens; Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions with cable, satellite, and DVR. We also provide healthy, organic (whenever possible) food prepared by fully trained chefs; yoga room; gardens, hiking trails, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Everything you need to feel at home, safe, and comfortable is provided for you at Cliffside Malibu.

Cliffside Malibu is a safe, relaxed place. Each day, you will work with many of the industry’s leading professionals who have your recovery as their number one priority. Unlike other facilities where you might be herded from one group activity to another, at Cliffside, we create a tailored individual recovery plan for you. We have far more staff than clients, enabling us to ensure that all your personal and recovery needs are met.
Your recovery plan will be made up of proven, evidence-based therapies. Using the Stages of Change model, we meet you at the current stage of your recovery and help you overcome any obstacles you face to being free from drugs and alcohol long- term. If you have co-occurring disorders such as anxiety or depression, we will address those simultaneously. Your entire treatment program will be overseen by your personal therapist. In addition to intensive one-on-one psychotherapy, you will also receive the highest quality complementary therapies available including, but not limited to acupuncture, massage, personal training, yoga, and other treatments. You will also have personal time to digest all that you have learned and to enjoy our hiking trails, swimming pool, and gardens.
