Admission Guidelines

Each of our new patients participates in a medical and mental health screening by our staff physician, a clinical therapist and a psychiatrist. These screenings help you and your therapist design a unique treatment plan that reflects the needs identified during this evaluation process. A treatment plan identifies specific challenges you and your therapist believe should be addressed during your stay at Cliffside, while it also provides a tool for measuring progress.

Primary Treatment Admission Guidelines

We welcome individuals who satisfy the following requirements:

You are over 18 years of age
You are chemically dependent upon drugs/alcohol
You are able to perform a reasonable level of self-care, including, caring for yourself day to day (eating, grooming and keeping your room tidy)
You express motivation and a willingness to live in a treatment environment and pursue a sober life.

Extended Care Treatment Guidelines

We welcome individuals who satisfy the following requirements:

You are over 18 years of age
You are currently sober – no longer chemically dependent on drugs/alcohol.
You are willing to follow a treatment plan developed by you and your therapist.

Cliffside Malibu works hard to say yes to complex needs, but never at the expense of safe, appropriate care. Patients who need hospital-level care or acute psychiatric stabilization may need that first.

Accepting Most Major Insurance Plans

Cliffside works with a variety of insurance plans. Our admissions team will verify your benefits and clearly explain the options available before admission. We firmly believe in eliminating barriers to treatment. It’s why we closely work with major insurance carriers to ensure everybody receives the treatment they deserve. We also accept private payments for additional convenience.

How quickly can I be admitted to Cliffside Malibu?

Cliffside Malibu admits patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When a bed is available and the clinical review is complete, admissions works to move quickly from first call to arrival.

Can my family be involved in my care?

Yes. Admissions can coordinate with your family before you arrive, and our family program offers educational sessions every Saturday. You can also have family sessions with your therapist, and visiting hours are on weekends.

Can I bring my phone?

Patients may have phones and devices, but the first 72 hours are a blackout period so new patients can settle in.

What should I bring?

Bring comfortable clothes and shoes, a few books and sunscreen. We provide a robe, slippers and fluff-and-fold laundry service, so there’s no need to overpack.

Does admissions help with travel?

Yes. Admissions can help you plan your trip and arrange discreet pickup from nearby airports, including LAX. Patients book and pay for their own flights.
