COVID-19 and Getting Treatment: Finding a Safe Place

Governments across the world put COVID-19 restrictions in place over a year ago. The toll of uncertainty, isolation and separation from friends or family is significant. You likely feel emotions like depression or anxiety because of the regulations. You may also turn to substances to help you cope. An increase in substance use is not uncommon. The fear of seeking treatment at a treatment center can increase when you are unsure how seriously the center is taking COVID-19 regulations. Do you wonder if addiction or mental health treatment is safe to start while the COVID-19 pandemic continues? Cliffside Malibu believes your safety and peace of mind during the pandemic are integral to your well-being.

Peace of Mind in Treatment

You aren’t alone if you noticed feelings of depression, anxiety or increased reliance on a substance. The rates of depression and substance addiction have increased since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many adults said they feel depressed or have anxiety symptoms after a few months of quarantine, self-isolation or social distancing. Some adults reported they had increased their use of substances — alcohol, opioids, marijuana or other drugs — to help them cope. Recognizing the pandemic’s effects and the stress it can cause on your physical and mental well-being is essential to begin to seek help — your decision to address the steps you can take to decrease harmful thoughts and habits. Once you decide to enter treatment, you can feel many different emotions; worrying about your health shouldn’t be one of those emotions. COVID-19 requires several health and safety precautions.

Treatment Focused on Your Well-being

Safe, private addiction and dual diagnosis treatment is a priority at Cliffside Malibu. We understand your need to feel comfortable where you are receiving your care. Whether you begin treatment in our outpatient or residential programs, we have COVID-19 safety regulations in place at our location.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Not everyone requires inpatient treatment. Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) may be the answer for you if you find yourself needing a little help, had a short relapse or your aftercare program wasn’t the right fit. An IOP gives you the freedom to go home each day.

Cliffside Malibu’s IOP addresses addiction and mental health disorders. You will meet at our center each day and participate in various activities, including meeting with your therapist twice a week for individual therapy.* If you wish to add other forms of treatment to your IOP, we support your decision. We believe holistic therapies like yoga, meditation, nutrition and psychiatric counseling are personal decisions that can bolster your treatment.

*Please note: At this time, all our outpatient services are done via virtual telehealth. Once more patients become vaccinated, we will resume in-person programming.

Residential Treatment Program

Inpatient treatment, or residential treatment, requires you to live at a treatment center. The idea of leaving everything you know to live in a place where you may not have access to the comforts of home could make you hesitant to enter treatment. Before you decide to self-treat or delay treatment, research treatment centers that specialize in exclusive, private care. Cliffside Malibu provides a small, serene location that caters to your need for luxury and safety.

Cliffside Malibu offers private bedrooms and bathrooms along with outdoor spaces like sundecks and gardens. We also have peaceful settings on our grounds that encourage you to sit, journal or find inner peace while you watch or listen to the ocean. We know your nutrition is essential and provide food that meets your dietary needs. Whether you seek therapy for alcohol, drug issues or a dual diagnosis, we have programs that fit your unique needs; each condition requires different therapy approaches.

Sober Living

Sober living is available if you feel you need more time before you go back into your work or living environment or think you need help maintaining your sobriety. Maybe you need to revisit therapy to “brush up” on coping skills or stabilize your thoughts and feelings. Sober living is available to those who are transitioning out of inpatient or outpatient treatment. We also encourage you to enter sober living if you think you are at risk of relapsing. Our sober living houses include staff that can guide you through your residential living transition or the difficulties found in your living or work environment. Your focus on your needs isn’t distracted by worrying about cooking or cleaning. We provide these services. Comprehensive care is essential to your well-being; we offer holistic therapies like yoga and meditation.
