Restoring Energetic Balance

acupuncture Acupuncture Acupuncture is a component of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medicines that has been in practice for more than five thousand years. Acupuncture is based on the idea that all living beings have “qi” (pronounced chEE), a vital energy that, when balanced in the invisible energy channels of the body, produces good health. Imbalance in the qi is how disease begins.

When qi is imbalanced, an acupuncturist inserts small, solid needles along the bod’’s energy channels. These needles are generally inserted near the surface of the skin and retained for twenty minutes or so while the patient lies on the table, often sleeping.

Western physicians have had difficulty proving how and why acupuncture works, though it has been shown to help with or cure a number of issues, particularly those related to pain. Research has shown that acupuncture stimulates circulation and the release of endorphins and influences neurotransmitters, the autonomic nervous system, and electrical currents in the body – all of which directly affect how the brain and major organs function.

In addition to general positive health effects, acupuncture is also well-known to assist those with chemical dependency. The NADA protocols use auricular (ear) points to help those suffering detoxification symptoms to relax, particularly when feeling most ill from withdrawal. The benefits of the NADA protocol include: reductions in drug cravings and anxiety, better sleep, less need for pharmaceuticals, and greater willingness to see drug treatment through.
