Adolescent alcoholism warning signs aren’t always obvious. Your adolescent may be suffering from alcoholism and you may not even suspect at all. If you have no reason to suspect your youth of abusing alcoholic beverages, you will also have no reason to check for the warning signs. This is a dangerous comfort zone when your adolescent is suffering from alcoholism and you aren’t able to get them help because you don’t know it. There are some warning signs that you should be able to detect without asking your young person any questions at all. If these signs are noted, you need to follow up with your physician and find out what’s going on with your teen.
Unnatural behavior such as outbursts with slurred speech, sudden unexplained weight loss, disregard for your authority and their responsibilities, loss of appetite, inattention to their personal hygiene (when they were previously neat and kept), drop in grades at school, skipping school, loss of interest in family, spending most of their time in their room and any substance paraphernalia are all warning signs you should be very concerned about and seek help for.
