Intensive Outpatient Program

Have you gone to residential treatment somewhere and found that at home, things are a little rockier than you’d like? Did the aftercare plan you were given not measure up to your expectations and you’re afraid of relapse? Are you coming back from a short relapse and in need of fine tuning, but not a full residential treatment experience? Did you enter a detox program, but your insurance will not cover residential treatment? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Cliffside Malibu may be for you.

What is IOP?

What is IOP?

IOP is an addiction treatment and dual diagnosis (for co-occurring psychological disorders)treatment program that takes place at the Cliffside Malibu center, with Cliffside Malibu staff, but the client does not stay overnight at the facility. Individuals in the Cliffside Malibu IOP will meet at the center daily to undergo a host of treatment activities that will include twice-weekly individual intensive psychotherapy sessions and small group counseling activities. In addition, IOP clients have an opportunity to add on additional services as needed, which can occur on or off site, including sessions with a private trainer, nutritionist, psychiatrist, yoga instructor, acupuncturist, meditation teachers or other whole-health practitioners.

How Does IOP Work?

How Does IOP Work?

Cliffside Malibu understands addiction as a behavioral disorder, not a disease. …and any behavior can be changed. You can recover. We meet you at your current stage of recovery using the Stages of Change model. Created by one of the world’s leading psychologists, the Stages of Change model allows us to walk with you hand in hand through the recovery process. When obstacles develop, we can navigate them together, helping to create optimal conditions for recovery. As you work through the change process, you become ready to navigate life outside the treatment center, something we will help you do with courage and competency.

Co-Occurring Disorders

Co-Occurring Disorders

Although research says that about half of the addicts who present for treatment have co-occurring psychological or psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or ADHD along with their addiction problem, at Cliffside Malibu, we find the number in our center is closer to 70-75%. Because of this, we are licensed to treat co-occurring disorders concurrently with addiction. Doing so will not only make your addiction recovery more comfortable, it will make it more lasting. We have psychiatrists who consult with us or we can consult with yours, along with specially trained psychotherapists who are cognizant of the particular needs of the dual-diagnosis client.
