Treatment Tips for Depression
•    Learn as much as you can about your depression. Are your depression symptoms from an underlying medical condition? If so, see your primary care doctor and get those treated first. Also get help determining how severe your depression is. More severe depression will need more intensive treatment
•    It takes time to find the right treatment. Finding the right approach and treatment for your depression may take some time. Likely you didn’t become depressed overnight. In the same vein, it may take a bit of time to find out what treatment(s) is best for you. Be ready and open for some new ideas.
•    Don’t rely on medications alone. Medications are usually only intended for short-term use and have spotty efficacy rates. There are also many holistic approaches to depression treatment that do not rely on medication. You might choose other treatments like talk therapy, diet and exercise, or acupuncture. Keep your options open.
•    Get social support. Depression is often experienced in part as severe loneliness. The more you cultivate your social connections, the more protected you are from depression. Reach out for help to either family or friends or a support group. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
•    Treatment takes time and commitment. There is no magic feather. It’s going to take some time for these approaches to work. Stay hopeful and know that it is normal to have emotional ups and downs.

And know that there is always help. There are many Malibu depression treatment specialists out there who can help you find hope.
