Finding the courage to enroll in a drug rehab program

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

The right drug rehab program will save your life. The might sound melodramatic, but the plain fact of the matter is that no addict gets better outside of a private drug rehabilitation facility. If you’ve made it this far, you shouldn’t need anyone to tell you about the dangers of addiction, about how drug abuse turns its victims into hollow, miserable shells of their former selves. The good news is that drug rehab from the right California drug rehab center can make it better. The caveat, though, is that you’re the one who has to take the first step.

Remember, no drug rehab program can start without the consent of the drug rehab patient, and even the most exclusive drug rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles can’t help an addict who isn’t willing to help himself. At Cliffside Malibu, we know how to make drug rehab work for you. Our luxury drug rehab facility and experienced drug rehab caregivers are everything any addict could ever ask for. Again, though, healing has to start with you. Drug treatment and drug detox really will save your life, if you have the courage to enroll in a drug rehab program at Cliffside Malibu. With so much at stake, you can’t afford to do anything else.

Detoxification

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Anybody who has suffered through an alcohol or drug addiction can tell
you the worst part is the detoxification process. The disease of
addiction can lead to physical and mental illness and even death if not
treated properly. Detoxification also known as “cold turkey” is often a
horrible, even painful forced abstinence from one’s poison of choice.
Urgent cravings, cramps, fever, and queasiness are some of the symptoms
an addict might experience during the withdrawal period. The
detoxication process should always be undertaken in a proper facility
for the safety of the individual and be observed by medical
professionals to insure expert treatment is rendered.

Choosing a facility for detoxification and rehab is a critical decision.
When choosing a facility certain concerns must be addressed. Distance
from areas where drugs can be obtained is very important, as is a
private location with a stress free peaceful environment. Just these two
factors alone contribute greatly to the successful detoxification and
recovery of the addict. When combined with an experienced staff of
medical, therapeutical, health, and nutrition experts, a solid plan
for recovery can be made and the individual can start to build the
foundation needed to beat their addiction.

The only facility on the planet that offers this kind of top quality treatment is
Cliffside Malibu in Los Angeles, California. Located on 2 quiet
beachfront acres on the coast of sunny Southern california yet far from
the noise and stress of urban Los Angeles, it is the perfect place for a
new beginning. Offering detoxification services as well as primary treatment
and extended care programs, Cliffside Malibu’s trained counselors are here to help you 24 hours a day.

Cocaine Detox

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

The process of cocaine detox has no specific physical, medical procedure
for treatment. Since, cocaine, a derivative of the South American Coca
plant, is water soluble, it is passed through the body very quickly.
Because it passes through the body very rapidly, and the effects are not
long lasting (10-60 minutes) the user may experience, or have developed
a physical need, but usually craves another dose because of a strong
mental compulsion. As a result, cocaine detox deals with the physical
aspect first, but is more focused on the psychological side of
treatment.

In the initial stages of cocaine detox, physical dependency, and any
immediate physical conditions resulting from the effects of heavy, or
binge use, such as going days without sleep, and not eating for days at
a time, are treated. Symptoms of physical dependency during cocaine
detox, or “withdrawal” usually last up to a week. The patient is closely
monitored and attended to during this time, and any further physical
issues addressed.

The patient typically experiences psychological symptoms like
depression, and anxiety as well, during the first stages of withdrawal.
It is during this part of cocaine detox, that treatment for
psychological dependency, is also applied. Treatment for mental
dependency continues even after the issue of physical dependency has
been resolved. The physical need may be gone, but the mental obsession
may never completely go away.

The treatment administered during cocaine detox is just the first step.
At the conclusion of cocaine detox, enrollment in a drug rehabilitation
program is advisable. Further treatment, and counseling are necessary in
almost all cases to ensure a successful recovery.

Bodywork: Acupressure and Massage

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

The human body is a high performance system that needs the occasional tuneup. In addition to physical training, Cliffside Malibu’s bodywork combination of acupressure and massage therapies address and alleviate the stresses of addiction and recovery.

Acupressure

Over 5000 years old, acupressure is the ancient Chinese medical science of pressing certain points on the body with fingers, knuckles, and palms. Acupressure promotes general health and well being. At Cliffside, our practitioner uses techniques to promote the flow of energy along the body’s 14 energy channels (also called meridians). Many residents find that acupressure relieves pain and muscle tension and clears their mind. Some have found acupressure therapy especially helpful for back pain and migraines.

Massage Therapy

Cliffside Malibu offers residents a number of massage therapy sessions. Seen by many as a luxury, we believe that massage therapy is an integral part of our primary treatment regimen. Massage therapy is a fundamental technique to relax, invigorate and clease the body. Especially helpful during and immediately following the detoxification process, our massage therapist uses techniques to relieve pain, reduce stress, and generally increase each resident’s sense of well being.

Detox

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

In the case of hardcore drug addiction, the first step towards recovery
is always stopping the use of the substance in question. This critical
first step towards recovery is known by many names on the street
including, kicking, cold turkey, and on the wagon. Some choose to detox
alone, while others seek assistance from friends or family and groups
such as AA/NA or the Salvation Army. The only sure method of kicking the
habit is to seek a qualified treatment center or hospital where
experienced professional staff can assist the in the detox and recovery
process. The detox process can be a very painful experience rivaling the
effects of the most violent illness or disease, so expert care isn’t so
much an option as it is a necessity.

Expert medical assistance during detox, combined with professional
counseling during the rehabilitation process are a solid personal plan
for recovery. Most rehabs aren’t suited for the intense individual
diagnosis and treatment needed for a successful lifelong recovery.
Without a solid foundation and a structured peaceful environment in which to
recover, the addict is more often than not going to relapse
and start the addiction up where he left off, sometimes with fatal
results. A qualified detox treatment facility with experienced staff and
personalized treatment are needed to give the addict a realistic chance
at recovering and beating this illness for life.

At Cliffside Malibu our
goal is to create a plan suited to the individual and their personal
addiction and recovery, allowing them to focus on their personal path to
sobriety from detox to recovery. With limited enrollment we insure
top notch personalized treatment, and our quiet Malibu beach location offers
a pleasant, private recovery experience. We offer detox, primary treatment and
extended care plans and our dedicated staff are always ready to assist
you and your family at 800-501-1988.

Recovery From Addiction

Monday, July 9th, 2007

For an addict, life is an unending quest to feel better. And often, a fruitless pursuit of a way to achieve that quest. Addicts are told they’re helpless, useless, lazy, selfish. When they are given recovery options, it’s often court-ordered. They are told by well-meaning family and friends to “just quit”. To “be strong”. They are targets of long-winded speeches regarding the costs of their addiction, lists of what their addiction takes from their loved ones as well as themselves, and predictions of the doom that the addiction holds in store for them. All of these things are true, but in themselves are not enough to enable the addict to achieve recovery.

When they are given more well-grounded options, they’re often given one drug to wean them free from the grip of a worse one. They attend NA meetings, enter a “detox” program, switch to a “milder” drug, or a combination of all of these. And in a majority of cases, fail. Which brings about the repeat of the whole addiction cycle. Because without a clear focus on all aspects of their addiction, these methods are rarely successful for the addict, and most often just frustrating to both the addicts and those who love them. It’s easy to see why most admitted addicts despair of recovery!

Recovery requires more than just one or two of these options. It requires a treatment plan which is tailored to the individual addict. One which focuses on all levels of addiction: physical, mental, and emotional.

-Physical: Withdrawal from the chemical addicted to, treatment of the malnutrition that often accompanies addiction (characterized by loss or impaired use by the body of vitamins and minerals required by the body for proper functioning), treatment of illnesses or injuries caused by the addiction, and return back to proper eating, sleeping, and exercise routines necessary for a healthy body.

-Mental: Education about the effects on the body of the chemical addicted to. Education on coping skills, trigger recognition, patterns of addictive behavior, and skills necessary to a successful and continued recovery. Helping the addict recognize and get treatment for the underlying causes of the addiction.

-Emotional: Rebuilding of the pride, confidence, sense of worth, respect, capability, and trust that addicts generally lose while in the grip of their drug of choice. Empowering the addict by giving them the control and the choice in the success of their recovery process. The understanding for an addicts recovery issues and challenges, and the support to help the addict face those challenges and overcome them.

The most successful recovery from any addiction is one that is built around the individual addict and focuses on each of these levels. By paying attention to the needs of the individual addict the treatment can build supports and strategies to overcome the difficult parts of the recovery process, while reinforcing the strengths the addict already possesses.

There is hope for recovery from addiction. Recovery is an achievable goal. Life can be reclaimed with effort, understanding, and a comprehensive and complete drug treatment plan.

The Basic Goal of Detoxification

Friday, July 6th, 2007

The basic goal of detoxification is to eliminate all harmful substances, narcotics, and toxins from a drug abusers body. Because this process can cause intense symptoms, rarely do drug addicts undergo detoxification without medical supervision. It is possible for a person to break a dependency on their own. Individuals with short-term dependencies have better results than a person who has been hooked on drugs for several years. Even so, because withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening, undergoing detox at a drug rehab or treatment center is the safest approach.

Before beginning the detoxification process, it is important for drug users to comprehend potential symptoms. Due to powerful cravings, some persons are not able to complete detox. This is the reason why drug rehabilitation centers are the best environment to rise above an addiction.

While going through detoxification, patients are closely observed, and not permitted to leave the treatment facility. Consequently, they are unable to give into cravings for the drug. Symptoms tend to settle down within three to four days. Long-term drug users may go through a longer withdrawal cycle – perhaps up to two weeks.

To help patients cope with the physical effects of detox, some treatment centers offer ongoing counseling during detoxification. This is purposed to help ease any distress or discomfort. In extreme cases, medical professionals may administer a drug to lessen distress.

While detox is very unpleasant for the patient, and potentially life-threatening, the entire process is necessary. Without fully cleansing the body, narcotic residue could remain in the blood stream. In this case, previous drug users may experience occasional cravings, which can come and go for many years. Drug cravings may result in a relapse. However, if all traces of the narcotic are flushed from the body, the cravings for the drug can disappear completely.

Drug addicts who want to skip the withdrawal process, and avoid withdrawal symptoms may opt for a procedure that greatly decreases detoxification discomfort. Healthcare professionals may recommend this detox procedure if it is suspected that a patient will endure severe symptoms. Under general anesthesia, the detox drug is administered, and the narcotic is flush from the blood stream and nervous system.

Even though withdrawal occurs suddenly with rapid detox, patients do not feel pain, and will only experience slight withdrawal symptoms. Drug treatment centers may also administer additional drugs intended to shorten the withdrawal period. Rather than endure 3 – 14 days of symptoms, patients may only suffer withdrawal symptoms for 6 – 12 hours.
