To encourage and to facilitate healing

You’ll learn a lot about yourself and your loved ones in the course of an addiction intervention. It won’t all be pretty, and it certainly won’t all be peaceful. But no process of engagement could ever be more important. The truth is that addiction interventions save lives. In the end, it’s hard to imagine how any bottom line could ever be more important than that one.

The best addiction intervention is the one that communicates its message to an addict in loving and supportive terms. The point of the intervention process is not to insult or demean—it’s to encourage, and to facilitate healing. The only effective addiction intervention is the one that ends with an addict’s seeking help from a professional rehab facility. If you can achieve that much, you’ll have accomplished everything you set out to do.
