The best intervention specialist is the one who brings genuine passion to his or her work. Family intervention is an inherently emotional process, after all, one that can only be managed by someone with a real emotional investment in it. What that means, for you, is that you have to have your priorities straight in seeking intervention services. Yes, expertise is important. But so is empathy. It isn’t enough to find a drug and alcohol intervention counselor with a bunch of fancy degrees nailed up on the wall. You have to find someone with heart. Anything less simply isn’t good enough.
Remember, intervention is a high-stakes game. The intervention that works is the one that helps an addict rediscover himself as he used to be, and the world as he used to know it.
