Rehab
The end of the road for most addicts usually begins with “hitting rock bottom” and enrolling in a rehab. Sadly, for others it can end with death from overdose or deteriorating health. Aside from the obvious physical health risks, addiction can also harm one’s mental health and cause otherwise uncharacteristic criminal and psychotic behavior. Addiction and the mental illness it causes can lead to imprisonment in a correctional facility or mental institution, and again even death. The best thing a family member or friend can do is once it is discovered that a person has a problem is to get help for that person as soon as possible. Catching the addiction early and getting the person to want to go to rehab, before they can cause themselves severe or irreversible physical and mental damage is critical.
When it comes to the subject of substance abuse and how to conquer it, most ex-addicts will tell you, finding a good rehab is the only legitimate way. The aid and support found at a rehab are invaluable in helping to build the foundation for a sober life for the recovering addict. Without the type of support a rehab offers, most will not be able to conquer their addictions. Addiction isn’t impossible to conquer on one’s own, especially in the early stages, but the deeper the addiction is, the lower the odds of success become. Finding a quality rehab increases the odds for a solid recovery dramatically. From the support of experiened medical professionals and drug councilors to the structure and discipline of the facility and it’s programs, the addict will find the necessary tools and skills to cure their addiction.
For the addict convicted of a crime, drug related or directly relating to one’s addiction (such as stealing in order to feed a habit) the Judge may sentence the individual to treatment at a court ordered rehab, where the addict, like it or not, has no choice but to get clean or serve more time. Again for some this may be the best or only answer, but for most, the harsh confines and jail like atmosphere of the court ordered rehab is detrimental to the recovery process. The peace and quiet of the private rehab is a far better alternative than the forced nature of the court ordered rehab. Getting help before something like this can happen is the only defense.
